Regardless of where exactly the extra services come from when they're outsourced like this, they're almost invariably of poor quality. That's because the companies that provide them use inferior technology. For example, DSL Internet technology can only barely be considered high speed Internet access, and satellite Internet access isn't much better. In fact, the satellites that the technology relies on are so far away that users experience a noticeable time lag- even with signals moving at the speed of light. That time lag makes satellite Internet a poor choice for anyone who wants to use VoIP applications or play online video games that require fast response times. The quality of phone service that you'll get from the local phone company is also substandard, with high prices and limited features for the money.
However, some cable companies improve upon all of these technologies though. High speed Internet service is faster and more reliable than DSL and satellite Internet, while providing better access to a variety of applications. The digital phone service has lots of useful features built into it like free long distance in the United States and Canada, and call management features like voice mail and caller id. Even the digital cable TV service is arguably better than satellite TV service because it isn't sensitive to fluctuations in the weather.
